For over 140 years people around the world have sat down and relaxed with this hot, malted beverage. Wholesome and nutritious, Horlicks was marketed as a health drink as well as an ideal bedtime accompaniment guarding against night starvation and still remains very popular today. Having such a long history means Horlicks related ephemera and memorabilia have become ever more collectable. This particular item, an easy mixing set, dates from the 1950's-1960's. Originally it would have comprised of the outer packaging, glass mixer with a metal plunger and a 4oz sample of Horlicks powder all for the special price of 3'- down from 3'8. The powder has been long used and enjoyed. The thick, glass mixer has a capacity of 8oz. It has an oz and g graduated scale down one side and "Horlicks Mixer" in red lettering on the front. It is in excellent condition being clean and undamaged. The metal plunger is also in perfect condition with no rusting which is a common problem. The mixer and plunger are not uncommon and can be found at any antique fair. What makes this set particularly interesting and highly prized is the fact it has retained the original outer packaging which promotes a sales event. The cardboard packaging remains strong. Considering it's great age, the packaging is in good condition. It has some slight creasing in places, a few small tears, one tab has become detached, there are some water marks and the surface has a grubby appearance which adds to that overall vintage look. The packaging design is very simple with the instructions printed on one side. A great gift for a collector of vintage Horlicks items, a collector of vintage household or advertising items or as part of a period display.
