"Make someone happy with a phone call" was the catchy slogan of Buzby, the iconic British advertising mascot created for Post Office Telecommunications, which later became British Telecommunications (BT). From 1976 to 1982, Buzby became a massive pop culture sensation. He was a cheerful, chatty cartoon bird—first brown, then bright yellow, later orange—often seen perched on telephone wires, voiced by the beloved actor Bernard Cribbins. Born in the mid-1970s after two quick tariff hikes led people to believe phone calls were costly, Buzby was designed to promote the joy and connection of keeping in touch, especially during cheaper off-peak times. His success changed public perception and boosted call volumes.

Beyond TV ads, Buzby was everywhere—on billboards, Underground posters, vans, and a huge range of merchandise from badges and mugs to board games and clothing. This particular item, the third jigsaw in a set of four, shows Buzby chatting with his mother. The box bears the marks of decades of play—splits to the base, creases, rubbed corners, and a tear to the lid—but the complete set of 35 thick plywood pieces remains clean, unfaded, and undamaged.

A wonderful find for collectors of vintage jigsaws or nostalgic advertising memorabilia or for someone celebrating Britain in the 1970's.
