Fascination with crime is decades old and has spawned numerous books, games, film and television series. This particular item was created by popular novelist Laurence Meynell at Pepys Games. The 1st edition came out in 1948, but after the success of the radio series "Adventures of PC49" in the early 1950's, the 2nd edition of which this item is one of, had the depicted policeman with PC49 on his collar. Each of the 53 cards are colourfully illustrated showing a host of criminals, their motives, opportunities and clues, along with members of the constabulary. The cards are standard playing card size and generally in good order with a handful having some creases or small tears. On the reverse is an armed robber motif. The box is extensively damaged. Heavily rubbed, creased with tears and and missing flaps the box has largely protected the contents. A nice item for a collector of vintage card games, for someone who appreciates good illustrations or for a amatuer sleuth.
