Description
This piece of social history is both fun and educational. Although "Sum-It" had been around for decades this particular version was adapted in the late 1960's to help educate and prepare the British public for the decimalisation of money in 1971. The cards have both "old money" values and the equivalent "new money" values printed on. At the time this would have been used by children and adults in equal measure. The box is strong and remains intact. There is some rubbing along the edges and corners and also some slight creasing. The lid, which depicts a background picture of the new currency to be introduced, has been attacked with a blue and red pen at some stage but this adds to the life this item has had. The plastic storage tray is in perfect condition as are the full compliment of cards. The paper instructions pamphlet is included but has some wear to the back page. A nice item for a vintage games or card collector, as a prop in a production or themed 1960's/1970's room, or just as originally intended as a fun but educational game for all the family.
