Description
A toy designed to bring the world to your eyes in the years before mass television viewing.  This particular item is rather rare and actively sort after by true View-Master collectors. Not only is this item in exceptionally good condition for it's age, boxed with it's contents but uniquely it was Made in France.  Numerically most View-Master viewers were manufactured in the USA or Belgium, far fewer were made in France, Australia and India. The box remains strong with no fading, good graphics and text in French.  One corner of the lid has split and some edges and corners show some rubbing through decades of use. On the underside of the base the original owner has written her name and address neatly in ink. The viewer has been checked and is in full working order.  The body of the viewer is made of brown Bakelite, while the lever has an ivory simulated plastic finial, both are clean and totally undamaged.  Also included in excellent condition is a folded, paper catalogue pamphlet dated 1959. Interestingly it gives 2 prices for each item. (In January 1960 the French franc was revalued, with 100 existing francs making one nouveau franc. The abbreviation "NF" was used on the 1958 design banknotes until 1963). The stereoscope also comes with a single reel (No. 1433 Mont St Michel) kept in a typical blue and white paper envelope and  a reel package consisting of three reels (Nos. 1432 A,B,C Bretagne, France) each with it's own envelope and multilingual index of images. All the paper ephemera accompanying this item has French text and was also printed in France. This truly wonderful rare item would make a lovely gift for a View-Master / stereoscope enthusiast, a vintage toy collector, or as a special toy for a child.
