Description
Stereoscopes were a popular form of home entertainment for the whole family from the mid 19th Century until the advent of television. It has been said that every house had a stereoscope. As the popularity increased so did the number of photographers and publishers who created stereographs on every conceivable subject. Produced by Jepsons, the opticians and spectacle makers of Burnley this particular stereograph is of a lake view at Limnley Stoke nr Bath. Mounted on thin card, the monochrome coloured stereo-photographs are in clean, undamaged condition and probably date from Late Victorian to Early Edwardian times. On the reverse, printed in purple ink, is the maker's details. A great item for a collector of stereographs, or for someone with a connection to Limnley Stoke or an interest in the social history of Burnley.
