Description
Stereoscopes were a popular form of home entertainment for the whole family from the mid 19th Century until the advent of television. It has been said that every house had a stereoscope. As the popularity increased so did the number of photographers and publishers who created stereographs on every conceivable subject. Produced under the company name of Excelsior Stereoscopic Tours of Hollingreave Road, Burnley by publisher M.E Wright this particular stereograph is of Harmony, a relaxing scene of swans floating on a lake with trees and mountain in the background. Mounted on thick card, the sepia coloured real stereo-photographs are clean with slight surface blemishes and probably dates from Late Victorian to Early Edwardian times. A great item for a collector of stereographs, or a collector of early photographic pieces or for someone with an interest in waterfowl.
