Description
"I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride my bike...." Full of nostalgia from a bygone age. This official Cyclist's Touring Club Handbook for 1950 was only sold to members for one shilling. Obviously well used this item has survived remarkably well for nearly seven decades. The book is a handy pocket size. The binding remains strong. The spine is heavily worn. The thin card covers have protected the pages but have had a hard time themselves. The covers are rubbed, slightly creased and marked but this adds to the overall vintage look of the item. The clean unmarked pages provide an enormous amount of information an intrepid cyclist touring the UK and Ireland would need to undertake a successful journey. There is a summary about the Touring Club and the contact details of regional secretaries, notes on travel concessions available to members, Ferry and Steamship Charges and Timetable, Lighting Up Times, and a comprehensive list which is arranged by counties for places to eat, stay or have repairs made. Throughout there are many advertisements related to cycling and camping from such companies as Halfords, Lucas, Rayleigh, B.S.A and Dunlop. A truly wonderful item for any cycling enthusiast, or any local historian who may like to track down the places mentioned to see if they still exist or the item could be used as part of a 1950's display.
